Genetic Testing Can Help You Make Better Health Decisions
Even if you do not have a personal history of cancer or heart disease Dr. Davidson can help you learn whether you are more likely to develop certain conditions. She will discuss your health history and guide your decisions as to if genetic testing is right for you.
If you would like to learn more about Dr. Davidson’s genetic testing options you can download this brochure “Genetic Testing Simplified.” Our office works with Invitae on many of the genetic tests we order. Visit the Invitae Resource Center website for more information on what you need to know about genetic testing.
Dr. Davidson wants to make sure you understand the results of any genetic test you may have. She will connect you to a genetic counselor whenever you have any genetic testing. Genetic counselors are healthcare professionals trained in genetics and counseling. They are experts at explaining complex genetic concepts and analyzing family history to understand disease risk.
Some of Your Genetic Test Options:
Carrier Screening - Determine your child’s risk of inheriting a genetic disease

-
Carrier screening—before or during pregnancy—can let you and your partner know if your child is at risk of inheriting a genetic disease.
-
A carrier is someone who has one altered copy of a gene, called a variant, that is associated with a disease that could be passed down to a child.
-
It is normal to be a carrier, even if you are healthy and do not experience any symptoms.
-
Most of us are carriers of at least one genetic disease.
-
For most diseases, both you and your partner have to be carriers for the same condition for your children to be at increased risk.
Cancer Screen - Looks at 61 genes to assess your risk of developing an inherited form of cancer
Genetic Health Screen - Looks at 147 genes to assess your risk of developing an inherited form of cancer or cardiovascular (heart) disease and more.
